Green Living Technologies International Hits a Grand Slam for Minnesota Twins with Green Wall Batter’s Eye at Target Field

On Monday, March 25, 2019, the Minnesota Twins staged a media event at Target Field in Downtown Minneapolis, MN, to unveil their new green living wall batter’s eye, the largest in Major League Baseball. Green Living Technologies International (GLTI) President and Founder George Irwin was on hand at the event to unveil the batter’s eye, a 2,500-square-foot GLTI system populated by 5,700 “sea green” juniper plants individually installed and secured in a “tiered, multiple-tray system” attached to the existing batter’s eye wall structure.

Green Living Technologies International (GLTI) Founder and President George Irwin travelled to the Minnesota Twins’ Target Field on Monday, March 25, 2019, to help unveil a GLTI green wall that is now Major League Baseball’s largest green living wall.

The 2,500-square-foot system is also among one of the largest green living walls in the continental United States. Not only does the wall improve the aesthetics of the hitter’s backdrop in center field, the dark green vegetation contrasts the white baseball for the hitters. The wall consists of 5,700 “sea green” juniper plants, individually installed and secured in the patented GLTI Plug and Play 10-square-foot panels that are attached to the existing wall structure.

“We are proud the Minnesota Twins selected GLTI, after a highly-scrutinized evaluation process, to design and manufacture what is one of the most spectacular and largest living walls of its kind in the country,” said Irwin. “Baseball is America’s pastime, and GLTI manufactures all of its products in the United States. Our lifetime warrantied products, commitment to the environment and practice of employing local labor made GLTI the perfect signing bonus for the Twins organization.”

The Twins’ living wall is not GLTI’s first project with Major League Baseball. In 2015 GLTI, re-engineered the Miami Marlins outfield in less than two weeks by bringing the outfield wall and manufacturing a various slope green living roof, another one of the company’s products. GLTI also designed and built a 20,000-square-foot living roof for the New York Mets in 2009.

Construction of the living wall system was completed the week of January 21, 2019, with plant installation by CitiScapes and finished on March 20 and 21, 2019. The unveiling of the green living wall comes just days before the Twins open their season at home on March 28, 2019, against the Cleveland Indians. CityScapes is one of the premiere GLTI pro staff members responsible for countless projects and represent national brands for the GLTI family of products! Their work in Minnesota was instrumental in bringing this project to life!
